This is one of those weird 21st century questions…
So you have this facebook friend, someone you went to high school with but haven’t actually spoken to in a decade or so, the type of person who generally just posts 6,000 times a day with pictures of her kids and talking about how much she loves/misses/wants to be with her husband. Probably the kind of person you should just unfriend except you’re too much of a nosy bitch to unfriend anyone you went to high school with, especially those who have dubiously procreated.
And then one day she absolutely covers your facebook feed with vague posts of devastation like “I never knew i could cry so hard” and “I’m not okay but I have to be” and “My kids will always be number one in my life” and “SOMETIMES YOU CAN LOVE BUT YOU CAN’T MAKE SOMEONE LOVE YOU BACK” with her husband tagged.
It’s driving me oddly crazy to see this all day and not know what’s going on, but it’s not because she’s my friend - it’s because I’m a nosy bitch. I just like to know things. I get so annoyed when people post vague shit on facebook like, “I just hate passive-aggressive people who SAY they’re you’re FRIENDS” or “Dear Establishment-in-Downtown-Gatlinburg-that-sells-fried-chicken-but-shall-not-be-named, maybe you should stop treating your customers like ass and you’ll stop getting so many crack dealers in the bathroom” or stuff like that. I am occasionally guilty of this too, but I try to pay attention to how I use social networking.
It seems to me like the absolute ultimate in “I’M GOING TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I’M REALLY UPSET BUT NOT ABOUT WHAT BECAUSE THAT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS BECAUSE AFTER ALL I BARELY KNOW YOU” posting is what this girl is doing right now. I am 99% sure her husband is leaving her, but she won’t just come out and say it. She’s just clogging up facebook with her misery. Other people - droves of them - have asked her “What’s wrong?” but she won’t answer except with more vague stuff like “My world is turned upside down.”
My question is this - would it be inappropriate to just straight up ask her if her husband is being a dick? Or am I wasting too much time even trying to analyze this? Should I just block her or something? I don’t really want to block her though because I appreciate the drama, since I’m a nosy bitch.
God. I hate myself. What a weird dilemma.
