“One of the things we want to make sure is, ‘Hey guys, go about your business like you’re supposed to. Go to class. I know this is difficult. I know people are probably staring at you in the dorms and in the cafeterias but you’ve got to be a student-athlete around here and take the next right step,’” Parker said. “And the next right step for us is to get on the bus and go to Vermont.”

This is the Boston University hockey coach’s response to the second arrest in as many months  of a team member for sexual assault.

There are so many things wrong with this response; the quote above is just the highlight (let’s all feel real sorry for those poor boys on the hockey team).

What Jack Parker should have said:

“Violence against women is a terrible thing, and something that we at B.U. will not stand for. The focus right now should not be on the mood of the hockey team. The focus should be on the victims of sexual assault around the world who face monstrous difficulties to even have their voice heard. Unfortunately, the university student-athlete culture often results in incidents like these, and I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure that the team understands that this sort of behavior is completely unacceptable, and I will not stand for it.”

Alas, this is apparently not the world we live in.
